Drywall Repair in Houston, TX
Drywall repair is the removal and replacement of drywall that water has stained, swollen, or weakened. Wet drywall loses its strength and can grow mold, so damaged sections are cut out and rebuilt. We repair drywall in Houston homes and businesses and finish it to match the wall around it.

What is drywall repair?
Drywall repair is the removal and replacement of drywall that water has damaged. Drywall, also called sheetrock or gypsum board, is the panel that makes up most interior walls, and it does not hold up well to water.
When drywall soaks up water, it swells, weakens, and can start growing mold behind the paint. Repair means cutting out the affected section back to sound, dry material, installing new board, and finishing it so the wall looks whole again.
Why does wet drywall need to be replaced?
Wet drywall often needs to be replaced because water breaks down what gives it strength. Once the gypsum core absorbs water, the board loses its structure and does not fully recover.
Soaked drywall commonly:
- Swells and crumbles, losing its firm surface
- Sags or bulges away from the studs
- Stains with brown or yellow marks that bleed through paint
- Grows mold on its paper facing
Covering damaged drywall with paint or a patch does not fix these problems. The board itself has to come out.
How is water-damaged drywall repaired?
Water-damaged drywall is repaired by removing the bad section and rebuilding it in stages.
- Cut back to sound material. The damaged drywall is cut out to dry, solid board.
- Check behind the wall. We look for wet insulation or moisture in the cavity before closing it up.
- Install new drywall. A fresh piece is cut to fit and fastened in place.
- Tape and mud. The seams are taped and coated so they disappear.
- Texture and prep. The surface is textured to match and made ready for paint.
Can water-damaged drywall be saved, or must it be replaced?
Whether drywall can be saved depends on how wet it got and what kind of water it was. Light, brief exposure to clean water sometimes dries without lasting harm.
Drywall that swelled, sagged, or crumbled has lost its strength and needs to be replaced. Any drywall touched by contaminated water, such as sewage or floodwater, is removed for health reasons regardless of how it looks. We check the board's condition and tell you honestly which sections can stay.
Finishing drywall to match
Finishing is what makes a drywall repair invisible. New board on its own stands out, so the last steps focus on blending it in.
We match the wall's texture, whether it is smooth, orange peel, knockdown, or another finish, then prime and prepare the area for paint. Matching an existing texture and paint sheen is skilled work, and it is the difference between a patch you notice and a wall that simply looks normal again.
